West Bloomfield

Welcome to West Bloomfield

The best of Oakland County, the best of everything.

West Bloomfield Charter Township has something to offer for everyone. A convenient location, a metropolitan vibe, and yet, it also has plenty of small-town charm for those looking for a low-key lifestyle.

Although recognized as one of the more expensive places to live in Oakland County, the housing market—much like its population—is strikingly varied.

There are neighborhoods throughout West Bloomfield to fit most budgets and lifestyles—from sub $225,000 homes for first-time buyers to a wide range of classic or newer colonials to multi-million dollar waterfront estates.

What to Love

  • Lakes—nearly 15% of the township’s total area is water, with access to many recreational lakes
  • A lifestyle for every taste—whether it’s urban, suburban, or rural
  • Access to some of the best schools in the state
  • Top golf courses and a paradise for those who love the outdoors

People & Lifestyle

Perhaps the best example of Oakland County's diverse urban-suburban-rural identity, West Bloomfield appeals to young professionals, families with school-aged children, white-collar workers and upper executives, and those entering retirement.

This diversity of lifestyles is evident in the township's demographics—26% of the population is under the age of 18, 27% ages 25 to 44, 28% ages 45 to 64, and 13% 65 years or older.

West Bloomfield also holds a strong commitment to education. Almost 60% of the adult population are college graduates. The township also has seven school districts serving its citizens, including four of the state's best—Bloomfield Hills, Birmingham, Oakland, and West Bloomfield.

Dining, Shopping & Entertainment

As you'd expect from a township the size of West Bloomfield, there are exceptional dining opportunities throughout the area.

Contemporary American cuisine graces the menu at J Alexanders. For high-end pizza and Italian, there's no better place than Crispelli's Bakery & Pizzeria. For cozy, traditional Italian, Nonna Maria's near Walnut Lake is worth a visit. Some of the area's best Jewish cuisine can be found at Stage Deli.

Business and commercial districts dot the area, with most located along the central commercial corridor of Orchard Lake Road. For major retailers, there is the Orchard Place Shopping Center. Small stores and boutique shopping are located at the intersection of West Maple Road. A mix of large and small retail stores can be found further north at Crosswinds Mall.

Things to Do

West Bloomfield is an absolute dream for anyone who loves the outdoors. The township’s 12 parks total over 500 acres of land—a large portion of which belongs to the West Bloomfield Nature Preserve and its wetlands, picnic areas, and walkable nature trail.

Another must-visit park is Marshbank Park, where you can fish or kayak, or keep close to land and use one of its sand volleyball courts, sports fields, or, in the winter, sled down the main hill. Not to be overlooked is the 64 acre West Bloomfield Trail, which includes a 6.8-mile walking, jogging, and biking trail.

The township also has first-class championship golf courses, with the exceptional country clubs of Shenandoah, Tam-O-Shanter, and Knollwood within its borders.
